Patient Notification


As current patients you will know that there have been several problems speaking to advisers and doctors, and with obtaining repeat prescriptions. All NHS primary care services are under extreme pressure and Rosedean is no exception.


The approach of hot summer weather is likely to make this worse, with a surge in patients, including visitors, suffering from hay-fever and sunburn, and an increased likelihood of stroke and heart attacks. These conditions have to be given priority, so to keep Rosedean running safely and efficiently:


Rosedean has been hit by many problems recently. Its building is listed, which restricts many changes. Between September 2018 and September 2019 the practice will have lost 6 GPs and 2 Nurses, and has found it very difficult to recruit replacements. This understaffing restricts the number of appointments, particularly during the summer, when visitors – some with serious conditions – must be accommodated. And lastly, an essential on-line software update has suffered several setbacks, and is not yet fully up to date.


It is critical that we continue to deliver GP, nursing and dispensary services that do not put patients at risk from unsafe practices or the effects of financial instability, and Rosedean House has implemented a five-year plan to invest in and develop all our services. We will improve telephone and on-line access for patients, but also the facilities at the main surgery to provide a wider variety of services. To help with this we have teamed up with a specialist “turnaround” company to support our staff, and to stabilise and develop the practice.


A great many visits to doctors’ surgeries concern very minor ailments that are far better dealt with by pharmacists, something the government’s ‘Choose Well’ campaign encourages. There are many other ways that pressure on the practice’s services can be relieved.


At this time we ask that patients consider;


  • Can your problem be dealt with over the phone – please ask for a call back.
  • Have you tried using eConsult - please do, it’s easier than you think.
  • For a routine appointment, please book as early as you can.
  • If your routine appointment can safely be delayed, please consider doing so.
  • Can you see a pharmacist instead - please do.
  • And please be patient with our staff. While we are understaffed very ill patients must come first and you may have to wait a little longer than usual.Thank you for your understanding.
